Troubleshooting Landlines

When your landline phones are not working correctly, Pioneer Communications recommends you try these tips to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Make sure all of your phones are hung up.
  2. Unplug anything from the wall jack that is plugged into your phone line (telephones, answering machines, computers, etc.), so everything is unplugged at the same time. Get a working “corded” phone and plug it into the jack. If you have a dial tone, continue to plug in another phone and listen for the dial tone. If you don’t have a dial tone after plugging in the next phone into the jack, that may be the phone causing the problem.
  3. It is possible that you may have had a power surge and by simply unplugging all the equipment and waiting about 10 seconds to plug the phone back into the jack, that a dial tone is restored. Continue to plug in your other phones, one at a time, and check for dial tone each time.
  4. If you have a cordless phone, it could be the battery that is low which shorted out the telephone line. By unplugging all equipment, the dial tone may be restored. After plugging in a corded phone and dial tone is restored, wait until the cordless phone has a full battery charge before plugging it into the telephone jack.
