10 digit dialing

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released information for transition to the nationwide 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline (SPL) code. The new SPL code will require landline phone users to adopt 10-digit dialing.

Per the FCC: Beginning October 24, 2021, customers must dial 10 digits (area code plus telephone number) for all local calls. On and after this date, local calls dialed with only 7 digits may not be completed and a recording will be played saying the call cannot be completed as dialed.
