public wifi safety

You’re out shopping and decide to check your bank account on your phone. You have the option to connect to a public Wi-Fi network to save data. Should you? They’re convenient, sure…but often not secure. If you connect to a public network and send information through websites or apps, someone might be able to see it. While there isn’t much you can do to make them safer, you can do some things to help keep your data secure.

To be secure, your entire visit to each site should be encrypted, meaning that the URL starts with "https." Don’t stay permanently signed in to accounts and never use the same password on multiple websites. Also, be sure to change your device’s settings so that it doesn’t automatically connect to nearby Wi-Fi. Last but not least, use your mobile data to access sensitive personal or financial information online whenever possible.
