How streaming services changed the entertainment industry

It’s no secret that high-speed Internet has paved the way for the newest avenue of the entertainment industry. Streaming services are quickly reeling in the masses, allowing people to watch their favorite shows and movies online. Video entertainment has certainly evolved compared to the days when the family huddled around a single television to watch their weekly sitcom. Today, bulky home entertainment systems are a thing of the past. All that’s really needed to enjoy streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu is a laptop or smartphone (oh, and that little thing called WiFi).
Music streaming gained popularity first in the early 2000s, and just a few short years later, Netflix, the first-ever streaming service, revolutionized video streaming. With subscriptions, streaming services have even gifted us a life without commercials. Even new movie releases can be streamed from home, although nothing beats movie theater popcorn if you ask us.
The streaming era has arrived, and more people are taking part in it than you’d believe. YouTube, the most popular video streaming service in the world, has over two billion active users. Netflix has 196 million subscribers. Disney+, launched in late 2019, is already a global force in the video streaming market with over 70 million subscribers worldwide.
With how easily accessible and user-friendly streaming services are, it’s easy to assume that the number of streamers will continue to grow, and streaming services will be enjoyed for years to come.
